The Independent Medical Examination in Psychiatry

Dr. Joseph Berger is a consulting psychiatrist in practice in Toronto. He graduated in Medicine from the University of London, England, with honours, and trained in Psychiatry in the United States. He is certified as a specialist in Psychiatry by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and is an elected Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He has been an Examiner in Psychiatry for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology for twenty five years, has taught as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, and is the author of many published papers on different aspects of Diagnosis and Independent Psychiatric Assessments. Dr. Berger has performed more than 900 Independent Psychiatric Assessments. He was the first psychiatrist to present data on Independent Psychiatric Assessments at the Annual meeting of the American Psychiatric Association, and he has made a number of presentations on issues related to psychiatric disability to other medical groups, to seminars for lawyers, and to workers in the field of Disability Insurance. Dr. Berger is a past Chairman of the Toronto district of the Ontario Medical Association and is the current President of the Ontario branch of the American Psychiatric Association.
