Dr. Leanne E. Tran, BSc, JD, MD, CIPP/C, CIPM is a medically-trained lawyer with over 25 years of combined experience in the health, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, digital health, academic, and legal sectors. Dr. Tran is the General Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer at Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care. Prior to joining Yee Hong, she worked at a global law firm, a boutique health law firm, a medical device company, and in-house at three Toronto teaching and research hospitals. Dr. Tran is also the Principal at JD MD Solutions, which offers services at the interface of law, medicine, science, and research. She provides medico-legal and scientific due diligence and consulting in product liability, class action, medical malpractice, personal injury, and privacy matters.

Dr. Tran is a Board Director and Executive member of several non-profit healthcare organizations and legal associations. She also volunteers with two Toronto hospital Research Ethics Boards, providing legal, privacy, and scientific expertise. Dr. Tran has taught courses and workshops at the University of Toronto and its affiliated hospitals, including serving as Adjunct Faculty in the Faculty of Law. She has also conducted clinical research and quality improvement projects as co-Principal Investigator/Lead at several academic hospitals and at NASA, receiving grant funding for her work, including from the Canadian Medical Protective Association and Canadian Space Agency.

Dr. Tran has spoken extensively on medical and legal matters in Canada, the United States, Europe, and Asia. She was on the Editorial Board of and a peer reviewer for the Canadian Medical Association Journal and is a Canadian Bar Review Editorial Board Member. Dr. Tran has authored numerous papers and five medical-legal books: Canadian Health Information: A Practical Legal and Risk Management Guide, 4th Edition (Toronto: LexisNexis, 2018); Outbreaks: A Practical Legal and Risk Management Primer for the Healthcare Sector (Toronto: LexisNexis, 2021); Halsbury’s Laws of Canada – Public Health (2023 Reissue) (Toronto: LexisNexis, 2023); The Canadian Law of Consent to Treatment, 4th Edition (Toronto: LexisNexis, 2023); and Emerging Issues in Health Litigation and Regulation (Toronto: LexisNexis, 2026).

Joanna Harrington, B.A., J.D., Ph.D., is a Professor in the Faculty of Law and the Associate Dean Research for the College of Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Alberta. She specializes in public international law, international organizations, human rights law, and international and transnational criminal law, including foreign corruption and extradition. Her work has been published widely in law journals and edited collections, and she is a co-author of the Canadian text International Law: Doctrine, Practice, and Theory, 3rd ed. (Irwin Law, 2022). Career honours include a Fulbright Scholar award, the Canadian Association of Law Teachers Prize for Academic Excellence, and the Law Society of Alberta-Canadian Bar Association Alberta Branch Distinguished Service Award in Legal Scholarship, as well as visiting appointments at the University of New South Wales (Australia), the University of Oxford, and the University of Texas at Austin. From 2018 to 2021, she served as a member of the Canadian Human Rights Commission, and from 2010 to 2015, she served as an associate dean with university-wide responsibilities for post-graduate education. From 2006 to 2008, she served as the scholar-in-residence with Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (now Global Affairs Canada), providing advice to government on matters of international law, and representing Canada at the United Nations, the Organization of American States, and the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. She has testified as an expert witness in court and before parliamentary committees, and has contributed to human rights capacity-building projects with the United Nations Development Programme.

Heather MacIvor, B.A., M.A., M.Sc., Ph.D., J.D., is a freelance writer and legal researcher based in Toronto. Before retiring from LexisNexis Canada in 2023, she worked on numerous Halsbury’s Laws of Canada titles, including Civil Procedure, Administrative Law, both Constitutional Law titles and Judges and Courts. Heather holds degrees from Dalhousie University, Queen’s University and the London School of Economics, and was an Associate Professor of Political Science before obtaining a law degree. 

Hon. Stephen Goudge, Q.C., O.Ont., LL.B. (Hons.), was appointed to the Court of Appeal for Ontario in 1996. He served on that Court until 2014. He is presently counsel to Paliare Roland Rosenberg Rothstein LLP. He teaches Legal Ethics and Professional Responsibility at Osgoode Hall Law School, and serves on the Board of Governors of the Law Commission of Ontario.

Andrew K. Lokan, B.A., M.A., LL.B., LL.M., is a partner at Paliare Roland Rosenberg Rothstein LLP, where he practices in the areas of constitutional and administrative law, commercial litigation, and appellate advocacy. He teaches Constitutional Litigation at Osgoode Hall Law School, and is co-author of a text on constitutional litigation. He serves as chair of the board of directors of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association.
