Jack Fleming, B.A., LL.B., has practised residential tenancies law for over 40 years. He is the Executive Director of North Peel & Dufferin Community Legal Services, and is a former Adjunct Professor at Queen’s University Law School. He is also the author of LexisNexis Canada’s annual Ontario Landlord and Tenant Law Practice, as well as Residential Tenancies in Ontario, 4th Edition (LexisNexis Canada, 2022), the foremost treatise on landlord and tenant law in Ontario, which has been cited in many tribunal and court decisions, including the Ontario Court of Appeal.

C. Nicole Mangan, B.A. (Hons.), LL.B., is a partner with Richards Buell Sutton LLP and the chair of the firm’s Commercial Leasing Practice Group. She has been recognized by Best Lawyers® in the area of Commercial Leasing Law for the 2021-2025 editions. Nicole has broad experience working with property managers, landlords and tenants handling commercial lease disputes, including failure to pay rent, rent distress, abandoned premises, abandoned goods in a premise, surrender agreements, eviction of overholding tenants and ownership of fixtures on premises. Nicole is also a member of the firm’s employment law and insurance practice groups.

Ryan A. Shaw, B.A., J.D., is a partner with Richards Buell Sutton LLP, and his practice is focused on real estate disputes, construction disputes and insurance defence. Ryan regularly works with large institutional clients and international developers, as well as individual landowners and contractors. Ryan has appeared before all levels of court in British Columbia and has experience with alternate forms of dispute resolution, including mediation and arbitration.

J. Paul Salembier, B.Sc., LL.B., LL.M., is a former General Counsel with Canada’s Department of Justice, in which capacity he provided advice on legislative and regulatory initiatives. He has more than three decades of experience as a legislative drafter, and has drafted well over 1,000 bills and regulations. Mr. Salembier has also taught regulatory law, statutory interpretation and legislative drafting at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law, legislative drafting at Queen’s University’s Faculty of Law and legislative drafting as a visiting professor at the University of Hong Kong’s Faculty of Law. He has also given courses in legislative drafting and regulatory law to legislative counsel in Canada, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong. He authored Legal and Legislative Drafting, 3rd Edition (LexisNexis, 2024), and Regulatory Law and Practice, 3rd Edition (LexisNexis, 2021). He has published articles on statutory interpretation, Aboriginal law, regulatory law and legislative drafting. The Honourable Mr. Justice Graeme Mew, B.A. (Hons.), LL.B. holds law degrees from Kingston University in England and from the University of Windsor. He was called to the Bar of England & Wales in 1982, to the Bar of Ontario in 1987 and to the Bar of British Columbia in 2010. Prior to his appointment as a judge of the Superior Court of Justice (Ontario) in December 2013, he was a senior equity partner at Clyde & Co LLP in Toronto and a member of chambers at Four New Square in Lincoln’s Inn, London. He is a Bencher of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple. He is the founding author of The Law of Limitations, 4th Edition (LexisNexis Canada, 2023) and is a sessional instructor in the Faculty of Law at Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario.

Daniel Zacks, B.A., LL.B., holds a law degree from the University of New Brunswick and is called to the Bar of Ontario. He is principal of Zacks Law, where he practises commercial litigation, lawyers professional negligence, and insurance coverage. Mr. Zacks writes extensively on limitations issues. He is a co-author of The Law of Limitations, 4th Edition (LexisNexis Canada, 2023) and the author of Under the Limit, a blog on developments in Canadian limitations jurisprudence, which you can visit at limitations.ca.

Donald J. Bourgeois, B.A. (Hons.), LL.B., is one of Canada’s leading authorities on liquor, gaming, cannabis, charities and not-for-profit organizations, and elections. Mr. Bourgeois was General Counsel at the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario and has a private practice that focuses on liquor, gaming and other regulated industries in Canada. He was an adjunct professor at York University, Osgoode Hall Law School, on gambling law and on financial accountability. He is co- director on gambling law for Osgoode’s professional development program. He is the recipient of several awards, including the AMS/John Hodgson Award by the Ontario Bar Association in recognition of his leadership, development of the law, and service in the charitable arena, the Amethyst Award for Outstanding Achievement by Ontario Public Servants, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for dedication to his community and work to engage and inspire its residents, and the Mayor of Kitchener’s City Builder Award. He has also written extensively on the topic of charity and not-for-profit law, including several editions of The Law of Charitable and Not-for-Profit Organizations, Charities and Not-for-Profit Fundraising Handbook, Charities and Not-for-Profit Administration and Governance Handbook, and the Charities and Not-for-Profit Organizations title for Halsbury’s Laws of Canada. He is also the author of Public Law in Canada and co-author of Election Law in Canada, Cannabis Laws of Canada and Liquor Laws of Canada.
