Criminal Lawyers' Trial Book

The Honourable Mr. Justice Joseph F. Kenkel, B.A (Hons.), J.D. is a graduate of Queen’s University and Osgoode Hall Law School. Before his appointment to the Ontario Court of Justice in 2000, he practised criminal law in Toronto and was Treasurer of the Criminal Lawyers’ Association. Mr. Justice Kenkel is a member of the Tri-Court IT Committee and the Tri-Court AI Committee which manage technology issues for all three courts. He speaks regularly at law school classes and conferences across the country about impaired driving, scientific evidence, expert evidence and legal technology. His Honour has spoken at conferences on impaired driving issues in almost every province. He presents the Impaired Driving section at the National New Judges Program in Québec. He’s spoken about the unique issues in drug-impaired driving and has participated in the Drug Impaired Program at the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto. 

Justice Kenkel has written four books published by LexisNexis Canada: Impaired Driving in Canada; Impaired Driving in Canada: The Charter Cases; Criminal Lawyers’ Trial Book (1995–present) and Small Claims and Simplified Procedure Rules Litigation,. His Honour is also a contributor to Ontario Courtroom Procedure, edited by Justices Firestone, Fuerst and Sanderson (SCJ). He is the author of the Impaired Driving Netletter on Quicklaw. Justice Kenkel presides in the Ontario Court of Justice at Newmarket hearing criminal matters.
