Dr. Alison R. Manzer, B.Sc., LL.B., LL.M., M.B.A., M.Sc., D.B.A., is a partner in the Banking & Specialty Finance and Business Law Groups at Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP. She has an extensive commercial law practice, with a large cross-border and international practice base, including financial institution regulation, securitization, structured finance, project finance, commercial lending, corporate finance and private placement, banking, insolvency and restructuring, asset finance and related areas. Dr. Manzer has held several financial services industry directorships and many positions with legal organizations, including the American Bar Association, where she chairs committees, and the Association of Commercial Finance Attorneys (Past President). She is a regent of the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers and a  Fellow of the American Bar Association. Alison is an adjunct professor in the LL.M. program of Osgoode Hall Law School and has authored several books on financial services and commercial law topics. She is ranked in most legal peer rankings in Canada, the United States and globally in Banking and in Asset Finance.

Charles Newman, B.A., LL.B., is a partner serving as Co-Chair of the Banking & Specialty Finance Group at Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP. Charles’ practice focuses on all types of secured and unsecured lending transactions, including project/infrastructure financings, syndicated loan transactions, debtor-in-possession financings and asset-based and real estate-based lending matters. Charles does extensive work for Canadian and U.S.-based private equity funds in connection with their cross-border investments in equity, quasi-equity and qualified debt obligations. He also routinely acts on behalf of lenders, borrowers and receivers in connection with special account, work-out related, security enforcement and receivership files. He is recognized as a leader in his field by such authorities as the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, Best Lawyers in Canada, IFLR, and Chambers Canada.

Marc Mercier, B.A. (Hons.), LL.B., LL.M., is a partner in the Banking & Specialty Finance Group at Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP. His practice emphasizes secured, unsecured and merger and acquisition financing, treasury management and financial derivatives-related matters, along with complex reorganizational workouts and restructurings, in the domestic and international contexts. Marc also handles financing work in the subordinated/convertible debt, venture capital and private equity areas. Marc has acted for some of the largest financial institutions in Canada, the U.S. and Europe, has authored articles published in legal journals and texts, and speaks frequently at derivatives, secured lending, insolvency and restructuring and law reform conferences and bank seminars. He has been an adjunct faculty member of the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and Osgoode Hall Law School. As a senior member of the firm’s financial services practice area, Marc is active in the practice development and mentoring of senior and junior members of his team. In 2018, the Ontario Junior Hockey League honoured Marc with the Chairman’s Award for demonstrating the league’s core values, including integrity, professionalism and sportsmanship. Marc successfully climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in July 2018.

Jennifer Wasylyk, B.Sc., J.D., is the Deputy Managing Partner at Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP and is a member of the firm’s Mining, Banking & Specialty Finance and Environmental, Social & Governance Groups. Her practice focuses on corporate finance matters, representing both borrowers and lenders in a variety of domestic and multi- jurisdictional matters, including secured and unsecured lending transactions, project finance, convertible debt, asset-based lending and syndicated loans. In addition, Jennifer’s experience includes general corporate and reorganization matters. Jennifer was previously a sessional professor at Queen’s University Law School, where she taught courses on commercial law and the Personal Property Security Act.

Melissa Montana, B.A. (Hons.), J.D., is an associate in the Banking & Specialty Finance Group at Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP. Melissa’s practice focuses on a broad range of domestic and cross-border corporate finance transactions. She regularly acts for both borrowers and lenders in bilateral and syndicated facilities, project finance facilities, and acquisition financings. Melissa is also developing experience working with resource companies in the mining sector, as well as advising international and domestic commercial finance companies on leasing and equipment finance operations, including in the railcar space.

Sam DiGiuseppe, B.Mus. (Hons.), J.D., is an associate in the Banking & Specialty Finance Group at Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP. Sam’s
practice focuses on a broad range of domestic and international financing transactions, acting for both borrowers and lenders in secured and unsecured lending transactions, bilateral and syndicated facilities, and project finance facilities. Sam is also developing experience working with resource companies in the mining sector.

J’Davia Noel, B.A. (Hons.), J.D., is an associate in the Banking &
Specialty Finance Group at Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP. She
graduated from the J.D. program at the University of Windsor, Faculty of Law. J’Davia acted as a Teaching Assistant to the first-year Access to
Justice class, and as a Research Assistant for the Transnational Law and Justice Network.

Brittany Bottan, B.A. (Hons.), J.D., is an associate in the Banking &
