As increasing numbers of Millennials enter the workplace, they are wondering just how far the accomplishments of their childhood can take them in a workplace reeling from a prolonged economic downturn. They worry about what it means to have been told all their lives to study hard and follow their dreams, only to feel overwhelmed by choices, buried in historically high student loan debt, and thwarted by what they perceive as an outdated workplace structure. At the same time, they are confronting sweeping stereotypes about their generation. Baby Boomers and Gen Xers often misread their younger colleagues. They complain that Millennials act entitled and have an excessive need for praise. They also may fail to see where disinterested leadership styles, inflexible work practices, and ineffective management can play into Millennials' reputation at work.
This important new book separates the Millennials' behavioral myths from reality. In it, you will discover nuanced insights, detailed research, and practical advice necessary to help the generations understand each other better and recognize the impact of their own behaviors on the workplace. You will also learn specific strategies that will lead to a more effective work environment and stronger intergenerational teams. The book also provides a cultural and familial context to the key behaviors attributed to Millennials, while offering practical advice and proven strategies to help all generations maximize each other's strengths in the workplace.
You Raised Us - Now Work With Us is an indispensable resource for Millennials, Gen Xers, and Baby Boomers wanting to bring out the best in each other and enhance their own career success.
