Washington Community Property Deskbook

Tom Andrews is an emeritus professor at the University of Washington School of Law. A 1979 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Law, he joined the UW law faculty in 1985 after five years of practice in Washington, D.C., and a year clerking for the Honorable Louis H. Pollak, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. His principal teaching and research interests are in the areas of professional responsibility and property law (especially trusts and estates and community property).

Professor Andrews is a member of the Washington State Bar and a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), and a member of the Estate Planning Council of Seattle. He has served on the Rules of Professional Conduct Committee of the Washington State Bar Association (WSBA) and on the WSBA Disciplinary Board, and he now serves on the Practice of Law Board.

Professor Andrews served as co-editor-in-chief of the Washington Estate Planning Deskbook (2005) and the Washington Probate Deskbook (2005), both published by the WSBA, and wrote chapters for each deskbook. He also served on the editorial board for the Washington Community Property Deskbook (3d ed. 2003) and is the principal editor and updater of four chapters in that deskbook.

Karen Boxx is a Professor at the University of Washington School of Law, where she teaches in the areas of trusts and estates, community property, property, conflicts of laws, cannabis law and professional responsibility. She is also of counsel at Keller Rohrback LLP, Seattle, Washington. She was co-reporter for the Fifth Edition of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel Commentaries on the Model Rules of Professional Conduct. She is past Chair of the Washington State Bar Association Real Property, Probate and Trust Section and Chair-Elect of the WSBA Elder Law Section.

Professor Boxx has been active in legislative reform, including chairing a WSBA Task Force that drafted major revisions to Washington trust law enacted in 2011. She is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and a member of its Professional Responsibility, Elder Law, and Legal Education Committees.

She has run 16 marathons (so far). 

Ann Murphy is a professor at Gonzaga University School of Law. Prior to teaching, she worked as an attorney for District Counsel, the lawyers for the Internal Revenue Service. She was posted first in the San Francisco office and later in the Portland, Oregon, office. She tried more than 50 cases before the United States Tax Court. Professor Murphy has a M.A. in economics from Western Illinois University, and she obtained her law degree from DePaul University in Chicago. She currently teaches federal income tax, wills and trusts, evidence, and taxation of exempt organizations.
