Halsbury's Laws of Canada – Legislatures (2023 Reissue) / Misrepresentation and Fraud (2023 Reissue) / Missing Persons and Absentees (2023 Reissue)

Sheila Nemet-Brown, B.A. (Hons.), LL.B., is a Senior Content Development Associate for LexisNexis Canada. She obtained her law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School. She is the author of the Public Utilities and Legislatures titles in Halsbury’s Laws of Canada, and has served as contributing editor for numerous other Halsbury’s titles. She also developed and edited the Canada Criminal Sentencing Digest and the Canada Quantum Digest series. She is the original co-author, with the late Clayton Ruby, of Sentencing Ranges for Criminal Offences.

Chris Bentley, LL.B., Dipl. Leg. St. (Cantab), is the Managing Director of the Legal Innovation Zone (LIZ) and the Law Practice Program (LPP), both at Toronto Metropolitan University. Chris led the development of the LPP, a modern approach to lawyer licensing authorized by the Law Society of Ontario. He also co-founded LIZ, Canada’s first incubator dedicated to legal startups, to help deliver better legal solutions to consumers; LIZ supports legal startups, research and development for law firms, businesses, organizations and government, and practical reform initiatives. Chris was elected as an Ontario MPP for London West from 2003 to 2013. He was a member of Cabinet for all 10 years, serving as Minister in five Cabinet posts, including four years as Attorney General, as well as Labour, Training Colleges and Universities, Aboriginal Affairs, and Energy. He drove a number of change initiatives, such as Justice on Target (which reduced the time to trial and the number of court appearances per criminal case for the first time in 18 years), a health and safety initiative that reduced workplace injuries by 20% in three years, the four Pillars of Family Reform, and Civil Justice Reform, the largest funding increase in Legal Aid’s history. He was part of a new approach to indigenous relations recognized by the United Nations and also helped drive the implementation of the Reaching Higher investments in postsecondary education. For 23 years before politics, Chris practiced criminal defence and labour law. He taught part-time for 10 of those years at Western’s Law School, and helped establish and became the first Chairperson of Neighbourhood Legal Services, London and Middlesex, which provides legal services to those who cannot afford them. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law and of Cambridge University.

Shirley Margolis, B.A., J.D., is a freelance legal researcher and writer. She previously worked as Manager, Legal Writing for LexisNexis Canada, managing Halsbury’s Laws of Canada, clerked for the Ontario Court of Appeal, and worked as a Litigation Associate at Simpson, Thacher & Bartlett LLP in New York City. She has co-authored other Halsbury’s Laws of Canada titles, including Misrepresentation and Fraud, and has served as a contributing editor for several other Halsbury’s titles, including Torts, Legal Profession, Condominiums, Securities and Insurance. She has also served as a legal editor for numerous other LexisNexis publications, including Canadian Tort Law, 12th Edition and Canadian Tort Law – Cases, Notes & Materials, 16th Edition.

Catherine Morin, B.Mus. (Hons.), LL.B., is the Supervising Editor, Supplementation for Halsbury's Laws of Canada. In that capacity, she oversees the creation of supplements for all Halsbury's titles. She also manages the semi-annual updating of Halsbury's Companion: Guide and Consolidated Index. A former practitioner, Catherine has been responsible for re-structuring and overseeing the production of various digest products, including NetLetters™ and the Canadian Weekly Law Sheet. She has extensive legal research and writing experience and has authored several Halsbury's Laws of Canada titles, including Gifts, Missing Persons and Absentees, and Roads, Highways and Bridges. She is the co-author of the Debtor and Creditor and Mines and Minerals titles, and has served as a contributing editor on numerous others.

Margaret Isabel Hall, B.A. (Hons.), LL.B., LL.M., Ph.D., is a Professor in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Department of Criminology, at Simon Fraser University, where she is the Society of Notaries Public of B.C. Endowed Professor in Applied Legal Studies. Dr. Hall is also an Adjunct Professor at the Thompson Rivers University Faculty of Law (where she was a founding faculty member) and the Australian Centre for Health Law Research at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia. In addition to the first, second and third editions of the Law of Nuisance in Canada, Dr. Hall is a co-author of Canadian Tort Law (11th and 12th editions), also for Lexis Nexis, and Editor of the Canadian Law of Obligations: Private Law for the 21st Century published by LexisNexis in 2018. Dr. Hall has published extensively in the area of tort law, and also health law.
