Halsbury's Laws of Canada – Civil Procedure (2021 Reissue)

Jay Brecher, B.A., LL.B., is the Director of Secondary Content for LexisNexis Canada. He oversees the creation or acquisition of more than 1,000 releases per year of various secondary source materials, including treatises, monographs, annuals, looseleafs, newsletters, law reports, and Halsbury's Laws of Canada. He has authored or co-authored several Halsbury’s titles, including Athletics, Civil Procedure, Hunting and Fishing, Interim Preservation of Property Rights, Judges and Courts, Media and Postal Communications, and Social Assistance. He has also served as a contributing editor for numerous other Halsbury’s titles, including Copyright, Employment, and Income Tax (General).

Kevin P. McGuinness, LL.B., LL.M., S.J.D., spent more than 35 years in the practice of corporate/commercial law until he retired in 2016 from the Crown Law Office of the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General. His principal areas of practice included corporate commercial law and debtor-creditor remedies. He has taught law in Canada, England and Australia and worked in various legal capacities in both provincial and municipal government, private practice and as in-house counsel to major corporations. He is the author or co-author of many legal texts, including Canadian Business Corporations Law, 4th Edition (with Maurice Coombs); The Encyclopedic Dictionary of Canadian Law; The Law of Guarantee, 4th Edition; Canadian Civil Procedure Law, 2nd Edition (with Associate Justice Lunda Abrams); and numerous Halsbury's Laws of Canada titles.

Master Linda S. Abrams, B.A., J.D., LL.M., is a Case Management Master of the Superior Court of Justice (Ontario) and a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice. Until her appointment to the Bench in 1999, Master Abrams was a civil litigator – first with Fasken and later with Torys LLP. Concurrent with her law practice, Master Abrams served on the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board (Adjudicator and Vice-Chair), on the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board (Adjudicator) and on the Ethics Review Committee of the University of Toronto. Master Abrams is a frequent speaker at CLE programs and served as an adjunct professor at Osgoode Hall Law School (Lawyer as Negotiator). Her legal writings include articles for the Canadian Business Law Journal and a text on credit union law. She is also, with Kevin P. McGuinness, co-author of Canadian Civil Procedure Law, 1st and 2nd Editions, and The Practitioner's Evidence Law Sourcebook, both published by LexisNexis Canada.

Heather MacIvor, B.A., M.A., M.Sc., Ph.D., J.D., is a freelance writer and legal researcher based in Toronto. Before retiring from LexisNexis Canada in 2023, she worked on numerous Halsbury’s Laws of Canada titles, including Civil Procedure, Administrative Law, both Constitutional Law titles and Judges and Courts. Heather holds degrees from Dalhousie University, Queen’s University and the London School of Economics, and was an Associate Professor of Political Science before obtaining a law degree.
