Angela Swan, O.C. is Counsel at Aird & Berlis LLP in Toronto. She taught at the University of Toronto (as a full-time member of the Faculty of Law) from 1965 to 1988, as a part-time member until 1993, at the Faculty of Law of McGill University from 1996 to 2002, and at Osgoode Hall Law School since 2003. She has been in practice since 1987, a partner at Aird & Berlis from 1989 to 1997, and an associate at Stikeman Elliott LLP in Montreal from 1997 to 2002, before returning to Aird & Berlis LLP in 2002. She has an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell.

Angela was Lansdowne Visiting Professor at the University of Victoria in 1984. She was, until November 2024, an Adjunct Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School, where she taught teaches first-year Contracts and an upper-year contracts course. She has published numerous scholarly articles. Her major teaching and research interests have been in Contracts and the Conflict of Laws. She has published extensively on each topic. Her practice is mainly in the corporate/commercial area with a significant emphasis on the drafting, administration and interpretation of contracts of all kinds. She provides expert guidance and advice on contract law not only to her own firm but to other firms seeking an expert opinion on Ontario law.

Jakub Adamski, B.A., B.C.L., LL.B., LL.M., is Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Law, McGill University. A lawyer who articled with Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP after completing his legal education at McGill University and Columbia Law School, he continues to provide advice on diverse commercial and corporate questions. In an ongoing attempt to learn the common law and corporate law, he has taught over the years, Judicial Institutions and Legal Procedure, Legal Ethics and Professionalism, Contracts, Business Associations and Corporate Law History at the Faculty of Law, McGill University, and Contracts, Sale of Goods and Remedies in the common law program at the Université de Montréal. In 2020 McGill students bestowed upon him the John W. Durnford Teaching Excellence Award. He principally wrote (with Angela Swan) the volume on Contracts in Halsbury’s Laws of Canada, and was a
co-editor of the legal profession entry in Halsbury’s Laws of Canada. He and Angela Swan have written several case comments and given presentations at academic conferences.

Nicholas Bala, L.S.M., B.A., J.D., LL.M., has been a Professor of Law at Queen’s University since 1980. Nick is a leading Canadian expert on legal issues related to children, youth and families in the justice system. Much of his research work has involved collaborative interdisciplinary projects with social science researchers, mental health professionals, and family justice professionals. A number of his research projects have provided an impetus for significant reforms to the way in which Canada’s justice system deals with children, adolescents and families. He has published or co-authored 24 books and over 230 book chapters and articles in journals of law, criminology, psychology, social work and medicine. His work has been cited by all levels of court in Canada, including the Supreme Court, and has also been cited by courts in the USA, England, Singapore, New Zealand and Australia. Nick is frequently invited to present at programs for judges, lawyers and mental health professionals. His contributions to family law research and professional education were recognized in awards from Ontario’s Law Society and the Association of Family & Conciliation Courts, and he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2013. He chaired the Task Force that prepared the Parenting Plan Guide which has been adopted for use by AFCC chapters in Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia.
