Dr. Sunny Handa, B. Comm., LL.B., LL.M., D.C.L., is a partner and practice group leader of Blake Cassels & Graydon LLP’s Technology Group and Communications Group. Sunny represents clients dealing with technology and communications (telecommunications, broadcasting and radiocommunication) issues and advises clients on related corporate/commercial transactions. He has a substantial practice in mergers and acquisitions and has worked on a number of Canada’s largest transactions in the communications field. Sunny is one of Canada’s best known technology lawyers and is consistently ranked as a leading lawyer by many legal ranking organizations.

Sunny is an adjunct professor of law at McGill University and currently teaches communications regulatory law; he has taught complex legal transactions (advanced corporate law), information technology law, copyright and trademark theory, copyright and information technology law, and mergers and acquisitions law over the past 30 years. Jennifer E. Babe, B.A., LL.B., LL.M., a partner at Miller Thomson LLP, practises commercial law with a focus on secured transactions, the securing of sales and leases of significant products and the purchases of businesses, assets and shares. Ms. Babe serves on Ontario’s Business Law Advisory Council, is the past Chair of the Business Section of the Canadian Bar Association, recognized in the 2008 to 2019 issues of LEXPERT/American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada and a Regent of the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers.

Ash V. H. Baker, B.A., LL.B., is an associate lawyer and member of the Business Practices Group and the Technology & IP Group at Gardiner Roberts. Mr. Baker conducts a general corporate-commercial practice, advising business clients of all sizes on a range of matters.

The Late Honourable Roger T. Hughes, K.C., B.Sc., LL.B., was a preeminent figure in the legal community for over 50 years.

While in private practice, Mr. Hughes appeared as counsel in all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada, in a large number of precedent-setting cases. Appointed to the Federal Court in 2005, Justice Hughes served with distinction until his retirement in 2016.

Throughout his career, and after his retirement from the Court, Justice Hughes was a committed teacher and mentor, speaking at conferences and university classes on diverse legal topics including court practice and procedure; patent, trademark and copyright law; and media and entertainment law.

James D. M. Fraser, B.Sc. (Eng), LL.B., has over 45 years of experience in commercial leasing. Mr. Fraser's expertise includes all aspects of commercial leasing, including the offer to lease, negotiation of the lease, enforcement, and surrender of the lease. Mr. Fraser is also an accredited roster mediator for Ontario's Mandatory Mediation Program in Toronto. He has written on the topic of tenant's rights and remedies in a commercial lease, among other publications. He is the co-author of LexisNexis Canada's Canadian Forms & Precedents – Commercial Transactions – Commercial Tenancies, 2nd Edition.

Paul V. Lomic, B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D., LL.B., is an intellectual property and litigation lawyer at Lomic Law. His practice is focused on resolving intellectual property and commercial disputes. He is a Certified Specialist in Intellectual Property Law (Trademark) by the Law Society of Ontario, Chair of the Ontario Bar Association’s Artificial Intelligence Taskforce and is a Fellow of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada.

Toni P. Ashton, J.D., is a counsel at Marks & Clerk Canada/Marks & Clerk Law LLP counseling clients in the selection and availability of trademarks, portfolio management, prosecution, policing of trademarks, opposition and related licensing and packaging issues. She has served as Chair of the National Intellectual Property Section of the Canadian Bar Association; Fellow of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada; CET1 Co-Chair FICPI (International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys); Member of the INTA (International Trademark Association) Board of Directors and its Executive Committee and of its other committees. Jonathan Fleisher, B.Comm., M.B.A., J.D., is a partner in the Financial Services and Business Law Groups at Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP. His financial services practice focuses on the commercial finance industry with a particular emphasis on innovative cross-border transactions, and equipment and asset finance.
