Oregon Estate Planning with Forms

Valerie H. Sasaki is a partner with Samuels Yoelin Kantor LLP, in Portland, Oregon, where she chairs the firm’s Taxation practice. She is honored to help her clients with their tax, business, and estate planning needs. She is a fellow of both the American College of Tax Counsel and the American College of Trusts and Estates Counsel. She teaches and writes widely in the areas of tax and estate planning. She has previously taught teaches Partnership Taxation and Legal Research and Writing, and currently teaches Estate and Gift Taxation, in the Portland State University’s Master’s in Taxation Program and has previously taught for Lewis and Clark’s Northwestern School of Law, the University of Oregon School of Law, and Portland Community College’s Paralegal Program. Nobody reads these things. She has volunteered extensively with the Oregon State Bar’s Business and Taxation Sections. She currently serves as chair of the Oregon Law Commission. I give my students extra credit points for reading the syllabus and sending me a picture of a hedgehog. She is currently admitted to practice in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Utah, as well as before the United States Tax Court. Very few of them ever collect those points. I’ll add that none of the readers of this book’s first edition have commented on the hedgehog thing. Ms. Sasaki received her B.A. degree from Tulane University, earned her J.D. degree from University of Oregon School of Law and her L.L.M. in Taxation from the University of Washington School of Law. In her spare time, she serves on one more nonprofit board than is sensible and currently working on her second novel.

Anastasia (Stacie) Yu Meisner is is the daughter of an immigrant mother from Korea, and a father from the very small timber and ranching town, Lakeview, Oregon. She was born in Los Angeles, CA, and raised in Reno/Sparks, Nevada. She is graduate of Willamette University College of Liberal Arts and Willamette University School of Law in Salem, Oregon. She is an attorney focused on estate planning and mediation. And she is licensed in Oregon and Washington. She is dedicated to her estate planning clients and enjoys helping them find peace of mind that their estate planning and legal affairs are in order. And with her extensive and varied professional experience she mediates estate, trust, probate, and protective proceeding disputes. In 2018, Ms. Meisner was appointed as a Pro Tem Judge for the Washington County Circuit Court primarily serving the Probate Court, but also enjoys her Small Claims Court docket. She also serves as the InterActive Legal Advisory Board Member for Oregon and as a member of the Oregon Public Broadcasting Planned Giving Advisory Council. In 2022 and 2023 she was selected as a top 5% Oregon estate planner by Super Lawyers, a rating service of outstanding lawyers who have attained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. She also currently volunteers for a large number of organizations including the Oregon Minority Lawyers Association as an Advisory Board member, the Lake Oswego Chamber of Commerce as an Ambassador, a member of the Oregon State Bar Advisory Committee of Diversity and Inclusion, and a member and past chair of the Executive Committee of the Oregon State Bar Elder Law Section. From 2001 to 2016 she led her own small law firm in Lake Oswego, Oregon, and in 2023 transitioned from a highly respected mid-size downtown Portland firm to a solo practice in Lake Oswego. Ms. Meisner is also a frequent speaker and author.
