Mississippi Real Property Law and Practice

Dr. David W. Case is Professor of Law and the Butler, Snow, O’Mara, Stevens & Cannada Lecturer in Law at the University of Mississippi School of Law where he has been on the faculty since 2007. He is a graduate of the University of Mississippi (B.A., 1985; J.D., 1988, cum laude), Columbia University (LL.M., 1993), and Vanderbilt University (Ph.D., 2004). Prior to joining the Ole Miss Law faculty, Professor Case was a Bridgestone Americas Fellow in Environmental Management at Vanderbilt University and a Senior Research Associate with the Vanderbilt Center for Environmental Management Studies (1998-2001) and a law professor at the University of Memphis School of Law (2001-07).

Prior to his academic career, Professor Case practiced law with Ott & Purdy in Jackson, Mississippi, served as an attorney in the Civil Division of the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., and served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Rhesa H. Barksdale of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Professor Case has been a member of the Mississippi Bar since 1988 and since 2017 has served as a member of the Mississippi Supreme Court Advisory Committee on Rules. In 2019, he was named one of “Mississippi’s Leading Attorneys” by the Mississippi Business Journal.

At the University of Mississippi, Professor Case regularly teaches courses in Property, Contracts, Contract Negotiation and Drafting, Civil Procedure, Administrative Law, and Environmental Law. He has taught the first-year course in Property every year since joining the Ole Miss Law faculty in 2007. Professor Case has authored numerous scholarly articles, books, book chapters, and essays. He is a previous winner of the Ben A. Hardy Faculty Excellence Award in recognition of outstanding teaching, scholarship, and service by a faculty member at the University of Mississippi School of Law.
