Richard K. Leefe is a founding partner of the Leefe | Gibbs firm in Metairie, Louisiana. He is a former President of the Louisiana State Bar Association (2013–14) and has practiced law for forty-eight (48) years. He graduated from Louisiana State University in 1969 with a BS in Engineering. After briefly practicing engineering, he entered the U.S. Army and trained as a combat engineer officer in the Corps of Engineers. He later commanded an engineer company in Vietnam (1970–71). On return from Vietnam, he attended Loyola College of Law in New Orleans where he received his JD, and later obtained a Master of Laws in International Commercial Law from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland. He taught Evidence, Negotiable Instruments and Legal Research and Writing at Loyola College of Law from 1986 until 2002 when he taught American law to Chinese law students at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, China in 2002, and technical English to Chinese engineer Ph.D. candidates in 2009 at the same university. Mr. Leefe has handled legal matters in North America, South America, Africa, Europe, and Asia and has handled many cases in a number of U.S. States. He is the author of the Lexis publication Louisiana Code of Evidence Practice Guide, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Editions. Mr. Leefe is married to Barat P. Leefe and has four children and eight grandchildren.
