Kansas Civil Litigation

Braden Sullivan was born in Emporia, Kansas, and was raised in Wichita. He graduated from Goddard-Eisenhower High School before attending Wichita State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice, graduating Cum Laude in 2020 with a minor in Political Science. Braden received his Juris Doctor from Washburn University School of Law in May 2023. During law school, he served as a faculty-selected Professionalism Leader, Secretary of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Organization, and as a Clinic Intern at the Washburn Law Litigation Clinic, where he helped provide legal assistance and representation to low-income clients in the Topeka area. Before attending law school, Braden worked as a Behavior Technician supporting children with Autism and their families. After graduating law school, Braden joined the law firm of Triplett Woolf Garretson, where he now practices in the firm’s business and civil litigation groups, handling matters including insurance defense, contract disputes, and trust, probate, and estate litigation.

Derek Casey has been in private practice in Wichita since his graduation from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1991. His work has taken him before state, federal and tribal courts from New York to Honolulu. He has broad experience in investigating, defending, and prosecuting complex civil matters, including employment discrimination and other wrongful discharge claims, noncompete litigation, insurance coverage issues, defending and challenging estate plans, fiduciary duties in corporate settings and estates, ERISA litigation, subrogation claims, tortious interference, and class actions/multi-district litigation. In addition to representing and helping his clients, Derek has written articles on trial practice and has been invited as a speaker at continuing education seminars.

Kacey Mayes grew up in rural northwest Kansas and graduated from Fort Hays State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science with a Psychology minor (summa cum laude) in 2016. In 2019, after serving as the Executive Editor for Volume 58 of the Washburn Law Journal, she graduated with her Juris Doctorate, receiving Dean’s Honors, from Washburn University School of Law. Following graduation from law school, Kacey joined the law firm of Triplett Woolf Garretson, LLC in Wichita, Kansas where she is a member of the firm’s civil litigation group. She represents clients in various matters involving contract disputes, insurance defense, and creditor rights litigation such as mechanic’s liens, loan foreclosures, collections, and replevin actions. She also regularly practices in the area of assisted reproductive technology, guiding intended parents and gestational carriers through the drafting and negotiation of surrogacy agreements, as well as through the final declaration of parentage. In addition to representing clients in both state and federal courts, she also represents clients in the energy and public utility law sector on matters before the Kansas Corporation Commission.
