Florida Criminal Practice and Procedure

Elizabeth Berenguer is a professor of law at Stetson University College of Law and enjoys a national reputation as a legal scholar and leader with expertise in the areas of curricular design/assessment and critical/comparative rhetoric. 
Prior to entering academia in 2008, Professor Berenguer practiced criminal defense and immigration in the central Florida area. She served as a public defender from 2002 – 2004 and established her own firm handling criminal defense and immigration matters from 2004-2008. Since entering academia in 2008, she has taught a variety of courses including legal research and writing, advanced legal writing, pretrial litigation, transactional drafting, appellate advocacy, criminal law, and foundations of legal scholarship. She has designed the curriculum for legal writing programs at two different law schools and has collaborated on developing prerequisite courses for an LL.M in international legal studies program at Nottingham Law School in the United Kingdom.
She is the author of The Legal Scholar’s Guidebook (Aspen) and a co-author of Critical and Comparative Rhetoric: Unmasking Privilege and Power in Law and Legal Advocacy to Achieve Truth, Justice, and Equity (Bristol University Press), along with numerous articles and essays. Her scholarship is available on SSRN as well as directly from the publishing journals. 

Susan Rozelle is a professor of law at Stetson University College of Law and enjoys a national reputation as a legal scholar and leader with expertise in the areas of criminal law, evidence, and criminal procedure.
Prior to joining the legal academy, Professor Rozelle clerked for the Massachusetts Appeals Court and the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts. Her work with Nutter, McClennen & Fish, founded by former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis, focused on appellate practice.
Professor Rozelle's primary research interests lie in the areas of criminal responsibility and death qualification. Her scholarship has been cited, among other places, by the U.S. Supreme Court in Glossip v. Gross (2015) (Breyer, dissenting), the New York Governor's Council on Capital Punishment, and the Law Commission for England and Wales in its Report to Parliament recommending reform to the law of murder and manslaughter. Two of her articles spent a collective six weeks as "top-10 downloads" from the Social Science Research Network in the areas of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Corrections and Sentencing Law and Policy, and Evidence and Evidentiary Procedure. She has presented at scholarly conferences across the country, from Georgetown University Law Center to the University of California at Berkeley. A featured legal commentator in the popular press, Professor Rozelle also has appeared on the ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX evening news, as well as on NPR and FOX News Radio.
Professor Rozelle's pro bono contributions include co-authoring an amicus brief for the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in Uttecht v. Brown regarding the proper limits of death qualification and joining amici in Flores-Figueroa v. U.S. and Blueford v. Arkansas on issues of mens rea and double jeopardy, respectively. 
In addition to prior service to her institution as the associate dean for faculty and then as the associate dean for academic affairs, Professor Rozelle also is past chair of the Association of American Law Schools Criminal Justice Section, co-founder and past chair of the AALS Section for Associate Deans, sole founder and current chair of the AALS New Law Professors Teaching Materials Network, and a long-time member of the Executive Board of the American Bar Association’s Criminal Justice Magazine.
