Collier Real Estate Transactions and the Bankruptcy Code

A graduate of Brown University, Laurence D. Cherkis received his law degree in 1966 from New York University, where he was research editor of the law review and was awarded a John Norton Pomeroy Scholarship. Beginning in 1969, he practiced in the areas of real estate and creditors' rights law. He was a member of the firm of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz in New York City until 1996, and was later Of Counsel in the New York City office of Vinson & Elkins LLP. He lectured before bar associations and other groups on various subjects relating to the Bankruptcy Code, and was a contributing author to the Collier Bankruptcy Practice Guide. Mr. Cherkis was a Distinguished Visiting Practitioner at St. John's University School of Law from 1996 to 2002.

Michael L. Temin is Senior Counsel in the Financial Restructuring and Bankruptcy department of Fox Rothschild LLP, in Philadelphia. Before joining Fox Rothschild, Mr. Temin was a partner in the Litigation and Financial Services Groups of WolfBlock LLP. He has extensive experience representing debtors, creditors' committees and others involved in the restructuring or liquidation of insolvent businesses, in the purchase of assets from insolvent businesses and in structuring transactions with businesses in financial distress. He also has extensive experience in the areas of legal ethics and professional responsibility. He has participated in many CLE programs on bankruptcy and on ethics and has served as an expert witness in both disciplines. Mr. Temin is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he teaches a course on chapter 11. He is a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy and was a Regent from 1997 to 2003 and the Scholar-in-Residence from 2005 to 2009. He is a contributing author to Collier on Bankruptcy and Collier Bankruptcy Practice Guide, and the co-editor and contributing author to Pennsylvania Ethics Handbook (2008). Mr. Temin received his B.A., magna cum laude, from Yale University and his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania.
