Young, Douglas R.

Douglas R. Young, who joined Farella Braun & Martel in 1977, has tried a wide variety of cases to verdict and has appeared before appellate courts throughout the United States. Mr. Young's practice spans both civil and criminal law, and encompasses subjects as diverse as intellectual property, securities and antitrust issues. Mr. Young is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a member and past president of the California Academy of Appellate Lawyers, and a member of the American Law Institute and the American Judicature Society. Mr. Young also is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the California Attorney for Criminal Justice; and he is an officer in the San Francisco Chapter of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, the McFetridge American Inn of Court and the San Francisco Bar Association. He is listed in 'The Best Lawyers in America' and the 'Guide to the World's Leading White Collar Crime Lawyer'. Among other outside endeavors, Mr. Young has served has an officer or board member for several public-interest organizations and has acted as trial and appellate counsel both for such organizations and for indigent individuals. Since 1988, he has been selected repeatedly by the judges of the Federal District Court for the Northern District of California to serve on the Criminal Justice Act Defense Panel for the District, representing indigent criminal defendants by court appointment. He also represents, by court appointment, two inmates on California Death Row. In 1992, Mr. Young received the American Bar Association's Pro Bono Publico Award. Mr. Young received a B.A. (cum laude, highest honors in Philosophy) from Yale University. After service in the United States Marine Corps, he obtained his J.D. from Boalt Hall School of Law and then clerked for a federal judge. Mr. Young is a co-author of 'California Trial Handbook 2nd Edition', 'The Lawyer's Trial Handbook', and 'California Negotiation and Settlement Handbook'. He also has been a speaker/panelist
