California Evidence 2026 Courtroom Manual

Eileen A. Scallen is Professor of Practice and the former Associate Dean for Curriculum and Academic Affairs at UCLA School of Law. She began her legal career clerking for then-U.S. District Court Judge A. Wallace Tashima (now Senior Judge on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals) and practicing law in Los Angeles, California. She then served as a Professor of Law at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law (now called UC Law San Francisco) from 1989 to 2000, where she also served as Associate Academic Dean, from 1996 to 1998. In the fall of 2000, she returned to her home state of Minnesota. She remained smitten, however, with the California Evidence Code, and in 2013 returned to sunny Southern California, to join UCLA School of Law. Professor Scallen has served as the Chair of the Evidence Section of the American Association of Law Schools. She has won teaching awards at both UC Law, San Francisco (Outstanding Faculty Member) and UCLA School of Law (the Rutter Award for Excellence in Teaching) and has published widely in the areas of evidence, civil procedure, and legal argumentation and persuasion.

Glen Weissenberger is the former dean at DePaul University College of Law. He is a recognized legal authority on evidence, civil commitment, and the insanity defense. As an author, he has penned numerous works including Weissenberger’s Federal Evidence, which is frequently cited in law review articles and texts on evidence law. He served as an editorial consultant with Anderson Publishing Co., a Cincinnati-based legal publisher, from 1981 to 2002, and currently serves in the same capacity for LexisNexis Law School Publications. He has been the catalyst behind the development of more than 200 titles that are utilized extensively in legal education. Prof. Weissenberger was the Judge Joseph P. Kinneary Professor of Law at the University of Cincinnati, where he began his career in 1975, and during his tenure he served as a special counsel to the university president and as director of the university’s Center for Studies in Professional Skills. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Ohio State Bar Foundation Outstanding Research Award, the University of Cincinnati Faculty Achievement Award, and the University of Cincinnati Jerome P. Goldman Prize for Teaching Excellence.
