Environmental law is often at the forefront of our public discourse on topics ranging from our beautiful scenery to our iconic salmon. There are no easy answers to many questions that arise in this area of law. How clean must a contaminated site be after restoration? Should we regulate greenhouse gasses, and if so, how? How do we deal with increasing stormwater runoff from more acres of impervious surfaces as more and more people move to our state—partly because of the richness of our environment—while keeping housing affordable? How certain should our science and data be regarding human health and/or environmental risk before taking steps to address that risk?
These are only some of the many questions that environmental law in Washington seeks to answer and that are covered in Volume 7. This volume is designed to assist the practitioner, at any experience level, working on environmental matters and issues. Environmental law is increasingly specialized, as is borne out by the 19 chapters in this volume, and so each chapter was authored by experts in these 19 areas, from air quality to chemical substance regulation to natural resource damages. Attorneys in Washington will find their understanding of all of these areas illuminated by the writing of the truly outstanding group of authors who have contributed to this volume.
