This book tells how the first functioning democratic government in South Africa was established in the Ohrigstad region in the late 1840s among the Dutch Emigrants (Voortrekkers).

Essentially a prequel to Brown v Leyds. Who has the King's Voice? this book is an account of how the first South African government of the people by the people came about and how it became to profoundly influence southern African politics for many generations to come.
