The Law of Secured Transactions Under the Uniform Commercial Code

BARKLEY CLARK was well known as a national authority on commercial and financial services law. He advised financial institutions and businesses around the country on a variety of Uniform Commercial Code and federal banking law issues, including bank deposits and payment systems, and secured transactions. For many years Mr. Clark was a partner at the law firm Stinson LLP. Mr. Clark, who for many years was listed in Best Lawyers in America, was a graduate of Amherst College and Harvard Law School. During a teaching career spanning 35 years, he was a full-time member of the faculty at the University of Kansas School of Law, where he held a distinguished chair, and also at the George Washington University School of Law. Mr. Clark also taught as an adjunct faculty member at the Georgetown University School of Law and the University of Virginia School of Law. His publications are relied on by practicing attorneys and bankers throughout the financial services industry and are frequently cited by federal and state courts. He served as a special adviser to the Federal Reserve Board, the Commissioners on Uniform State Laws, and state legislatures around the country. He also served as a director of a national bank. He was the co-author with Barbara Clark of two major treatises in the banking law area—The Law of Bank Deposits, Collections and Credit Cards and The Law of Secured Transactions under the Uniform Commercial Code. Mr. Clark served as mayor of Lawrence, Kansas and the Lawrence City Commission.

BARBARA CLARK is a former federal prosecutor and commercial litigator with over 30 years’ experience. Barbara’s area of expertise centers around federal and state banking law issues including bank deposits and payment systems and secured transactions. Ms. Clark is a graduate of Hamilton College and the University of Maryland School of Law. She was a partner at Tydings & Rosenberg LLP. She served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri. She was a co-author with Barkley Clark of The Law of Bank Deposits, Collections and Credit Cards and The Law of Secured Transactions Under the Uniform Commercial Code.
