Taxation of Intellectual Property and Technology

Marvin Petry (Retired), Esq, is Martindale Hubbell peer rated AV-Preeminent, and since 2009 has annually been included within the list of Best Lawyers(R) in America, Intellectual Property Law. Marv has litigated 40-plus infringement actions and prosecuted patents and trademarks before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for international, Fortune 500, and midsized U.S. clients, including many patents of major economic significance. He regularly counsels clients on validity and infringement issues, and lectures on patent law and taxation of intellectual property. In addition, Marv has taught as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law School and is an author of the Lexis treatise Taxation of Intellectual Property and Technology. After receiving his undergraduate mechanical engineering degree and his MBA degree, Marv served as a patent examiner in the United States Patent and Trademark Office. William H. Byrnes (principal author), an Executive Professor of Texas A&M University School of Law, is an author of nine LexisNexis international tax and federal tax treatises, three Tax Facts books of National Underwriter, and over 1,000 tax articles. In 1994, he developed an international tax graduate program, pioneering in 1998 the first online LL.M. offered by an ABA law school (International Taxation). He held a senior position of international tax at Coopers & Lybrand (South Africa) specializing in transfer pricing and functional analysis. Professor Byrnes undertook a three-year transfer pricing fellowship at the IBFD in conjunction with an LL.M. at the University of Amsterdam.
