Sports Law: Cases and Materials

Ray Yasser is lead co-author of Sports Law: Cases and Materials, a sports law casebook widely used in law schools around the country, and has published widely in the sports law area. He has served as plaintiff's counsel in more than 70 Title IX (gender equality) sports cases, and he has also represented numerous athletes in eligibility disputes. Yasser teaches torts, sports law, and antitrust law at TU, where he has won numerous teaching awards. He has taught international sports law abroad, and in the fall of 2009 was a Visiting Professor at The Ohio State University Michael E. Moritz College of Law. Prior to joining the TU law faculty, Yasser served in the North Carolina Attorney General's Office. He earned his J.D. in 1974 from Duke Law School.

James R. McCurdy is co-author of Sports Law: Cases and Materials. He is Professor Emeritus at Gonzaga University School of Law and Adjunct Professor in the Sports Law & Policy Program at Thomas Jefferson School of Law. He is also the author of "Thunder on the Road from Seattle to Oklahoma City: Going from NOPA to ZOPA in the NBA," in Legal Issues in American Basketball ch. IV (Kurlantzick ed. 2011) and "The Fundamental Nature of Professional Sports Leagues, Constituent Clubs, and Mutual Duties to Protect Market Opportunities: Organized Baseball Case Study," in Legal Issues in Professional Baseball ch. IV (Kurlantzick ed. 2005). He is President of the the Pioneer Baseball League (since 1994); a member of the MiLB Council of League Presidents; and was an Inaugural Member of the MiLB Board of Trustees (1992 -94). He mediated the restructure of Minor League Baseball's governing structure ( 1992 ) and was appointed to the Professional Baseball Executive Council (1993). He earned his J.D. from the University Of Texas School Of Law.

Peter Goplerud, co-author of Sports Law: Cases and Materials, is an executive with The InfiLaw System, the operating company for three ABA approved law schools. He has taught at the University of Akron School of Law; Southern Illinois University School of Law, where he was also dean and associate dean, Saint Louis University School of Law, and the University of Oklahoma College of Law, where he served as dean for three years. In addition, he served as Dean of Drake University Law School from 1997 - June 2003 and Florida Coastal School of Law from 2004 - May 2013. His academic specialty is sports law and he has been a frequent lecturer and is widely published in the area. In 1997, Goplerud was elected to the Sports Lawyers Association Board of Directors. He has served on numerous committees for the organization and has been the Conference Chair and Co-Chair. He served as member of the Advisory Board of the National Sports Law Institute at Marquette University Law School from 1999 to 2005. Goplerud was involved in the representation of professional athletes in team and individual sports during the 1980s and 1990s. He also has experience with coaches' contracts, and NCAA matters, including athlete eligibility issues and compliance matters. He received both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Kansas.

Maureen Weston, co-author of Sports Law: Cases and Materials, is Professor of Law and Director of the Entertainment, Media & Sports Dispute Resolution Project at Pepperdine University School of Law, and Co-Academic Director, Institute for Entertainment Media & Culture at Pepperdine University. She serves as Faculty Advisor to the Sports & Entertainment Law Society and the Dispute Resolution Journal, and as coach to student teams in the ICC International Mediation and Sports & Entertainment Law ADR competitions. Prior to teaching, Weston practiced law with Holme Roberts & Owen, and Faegre & Benson in Colorado. She is actively involved in programs furthering opportunities for students to gain experience in negotiation, mediation and arbitration. Her committee service includes the ABA, Law School Division, Arbitration Competition, the ABA Dispute Resolution Education Committee, and AALS Sports Law Executive Committee. She is a member of the Sports Lawyers Association and serves on the Boards of Directors at the University of Colorado Law Alumni Board and Center for Sports Governance, the National Sports Law Institute at Marquette University Law School, Malibu Little League, and Editorial Board of LawInSport. A frequent speaker at conferences, Weston is also co-author of a casebook on arbitration and has written numerous articles in the area of sports law, arbitration, disability law, and dispute resolution.
