Pennsylvania Civil Practice

Judge Kevin A. Hess is a graduate of Dickinson College and of the Dickinson School of Law. His professional life has included fourteen years as a partner in a Carlisle law firm involved in the general practice of law. At the same time, he was employed on a part time basis with the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office, becoming First Assistant District Attorney in 1980. In addition, Judge Hess served for eleven years as the primary criminal law instructor for both the certifying and continuing education courses of the Pennsylvania Minor Judiciary. He was elected a Cumberland County Common Pleas Judge in 1985 and retained in 1995 and again in 2005. He is currently President Judge. He is an adjunct professor at Penn State University Dickinson School of Law. He is also a member of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court Civil Procedural Rules Committee.

Following ten years of litigating for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, including serving as a Senior Deputy Attorney General, Seth A. Mendelsohn joined the law department of a large publicly-traded company. Today, Seth manages litigation on behalf of its Pennsylvania subsidiary. Seth is a cum laude graduate of the Dickinson School of Law. He served as an Appellate Law Clerk to the Honorable Donald E. Wieand of the Superior Court of PA from 1995 to 1996, where he handled and drafted opinions regarding civil cases. An active member of the ABA and the PBA, Seth served as a member of the state bar association's board of governors; currently he serves on the board of directors of the Pennsylvania Bar Institute. Mr. Mendelsohn received his B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh (magna cum laude) and M.B.A. from Lebanon Valley College.

Nathan C. Wolf is a partner in the law firm of Wolf & Wolf in Carlisle. He has been in private practice since 2001 when he began practicing as an associate with Irwin Law Office in Carlisle. In March 2004, Mr. Wolf opened a solo general practice, a part of which was civil litigation. In August 2005 he and his wife, Stacy Barker Wolf, began practicing together. While a law student, Mr. Wolf was a clerk to E. Robert Elicker, II, the Divorce Master of Cumberland County, and the Hon. Kevin A. Hess. In the latter role, Mr. Wolf drafted judicial opinions and memoranda involving civil litigation matters. A 2001 graduate of the Dickinson School of Law of the Pennsylvania State University, Mr. Wolf was selected to represent the law school in the Gourley Trial Competition. Mr. Wolf maintains an active civil practice and is a guest lecturer in the Pennsylvania Civil Practice course taught by Judge Kevin A. Hess at Penn State Dickinson Law. Mr. Wolf is a 1998 Summa Cum Laude graduate of West Chester University, where he earned a B.S. and a B.A. Mr. Wolf began his contribution to this work in 2009 by authoring Section 4.03, Electronic Filing.

Stacy Barker Wolf is a partner in the firm of Wolf & Wolf in Carlisle. She has been in private practice since 2005 following appellate clerkships with the Hon. Robert A. Graci of the PA Superior Court and the Hon. J. Michael Eakin of the PA Supreme Court, where she drafted opinions and memoranda regarding civil and criminal cases. While a law student, Ms. Wolf was employed at the PA Attorney General’s Office in the Civil Litigation section, and was a judicial clerk to the Hon. Kevin A. Hess and the Hon. Edward E. Guido of the Cumberland County Court of Common Pleas. In those positions, Ms. Wolf drafted opinions and memoranda on civil litigation matters. A 2001 graduate of the Dickinson School of Law of the Pennsylvania State University, Ms. Wolf maintains an active civil practice and is a guest lecturer in the PA Civil Practice course taught by Judge Kevin A. Hess at Penn State Dickinson Law. Ms. Wolf is a 1998 Cum Laude graduate of Shippensburg University where she earned her B.A.
