Paul E. Mason is an arbitrator with the AAA/ICDR, Beijing Arbitration Commission, Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), ICC, LCIA, Delos/Paris, the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA), the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), the Vienna International Arbitration Center (VIAC), WIPO, and several Brazilian arbitration chambers such as the Brazil—Canada Chamber of Commerce (CCBC/São Paulo) and Brazil Center for Mediation and Arbitration (CBMA/Rio de Janeiro) and has acted as counsel in LCIA and ICDR arbitrations between Latin American, European and U.S. parties. He serves as Director-General of the Silicon Valley Arbitration and Mediation Center (SVAMC.org) and is a member of SVAMC’s Board and Tech List of highly vetted Arbitrators and Mediators for technology disputes. Mr. Mason acts as International Counsel, Arbitrator and Mediator specializing in international
business transactions and disputes. He is the former in-house Legal Director/Latin America &
Caribbean for Digital Equipment, Oracle, and 3Com/Palm, also responsible for Russia at DEC,
and for Canada at 3Com. As outside counsel, he acted as U.S. Legal Director for Módulo, S.A.,
a top Brazilian network security firm. He was responsible for managing these companies’
international litigation and arbitration cases as well as drafting their arbitration and dispute
resolution clauses, through which he gained a corporate user’s perspective on international
arbitration.
Mr. Mason co-founded and served as President of the Commercial Dispute Resolution Center of the Americas in Miami, the first institution in the U.S. entirely dedicated to promoting the use of arbitration and mediation in Latin America/Caribbean. He was named Honorary Professor at the Moscow Academy of Finance and Law (MFUA, Russia’s largest private university) where he has taught workshops on Negotiation, Mediation and Arbitration. He was Invited Professor teaching the Arbitration Module of the post-graduate
ADR Course for Attorneys and Judges at PUC-Minas Law School, Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and
an online International Arbitration Module at the FDV Law School in Brazil (2021). In the
1990s he was at the forefront, having co-designed and conducted arbitration training for the Latin American Senior Associate group at Baker & McKenzie among other clients. Since then he has written and presented extensively on international commercial arbitration with special geographical focus on Brazil and Latin America.
