Hawaii Rules of Evidence Manual

Addison M. Bowman is professor of law emeritus, Richardson School of Law, University of Hawaii at Manoa.

Bowman served as reporter to a 1978-79 Hawaii Judicial Council committee that drafted evidence rules, and to an interim committee of the 1979 Hawaii Legislature that prepared and issued evidence rules for enactment. He wrote the original HRE commentaries and the supplemental commentaries of 1992, 1993, and 2002. Bowman currently serves as reporter to the Hawaii Supreme Court's Standing Committee on Rules of Evidence.

Bowman is an appellate mediator for the Hawaii Supreme Court and an arbitrator for the Better Business Bureau. He received his LL.B. from the Dickinson School of Law and an LL.M. from the Georgetown University Law Center. He has taught law at Georgetown, Duke, Hawaii, and Hiroshima. He is a member of the bar of the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the District of Columbia and Ninth Circuits, and the Hawaii Bar. He resides with his family in Paauilo on the Big Island of Hawaii.
