Handling Federal Tort Claims: Administrative and Judicial Remedies

The original author for the volumes is the late Lester S. Jayson. Mr. Jayson started in private practice in New York after graduating from Harvard Law School. During World War II, he was appointed special assistant to the Attorney General of the United States, serving in this position when the Federal Tort Claims Act was passed in 1946. In the 1950's, when seminal FTCA cases were decided, Mr. Jayson was a trial attorney and Chief of what was then known as the Torts Section, now the Torts Branch, of the Department of Justice's Civil Division. The intimate knowledge of the Act and its origins that Mr. Jayson obtained through this experience is represented throughout this treatise. He joined the Congressional Research Service in 1960 and served as its director from 1966 to 1975. He then taught at Potomac Law School until his retirement.

After Mr. Jayson passed away, authorship was taken over by his co-author, Robert C. Longstreth. Mr. Longstreth is a member of the California, District of Columbia and New York Bars as well as the United States Supreme Court Bar and many other federal bars. He practices with DLA Piper US LLP in San Diego, California, where he concentrates in environmental law and insurance law. He formerly served as Trial Attorney for the Department of Justice, Torts Branch. He received his undergraduate degree from Haverford College and his law degree from Yale.
