Andrea S. Kramer is the founding member of the boutique Chicago law firm ASKramer Law LLC, where she advises clients in the energy and renewable industries, and on financial products taxation, regulation, design, trading, and risk management. She works with energy clients on both the regulated and unregulated sides, including some of the world’s largest power producers, refineries, and trading firms. Ms. Kramer advises clients in tax controversy matters and has drafted legislative and regulatory language for various tax proposals that have shaped tax legislation and regulatory guidance. She is the author of the first three editions of Financial Products: Taxation Regulation, and Design and coauthor of the fourth edition with Nicholas C. Mowbray. Ms. Kramer is a thought leader on the taxation and hedging of energy and commodity risks, providing more than 25 training programs for the Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service, most recently conducting a half-day training course for IRS Financial Product Specialists from across the country. She is recognized by FINRA as a tax expert witness. Ms. Kramer served as an adjunct professor at Northwestern University School of Law for more than 20 years. She coauthored and contributed to both editions of this book.
Nicholas C. Mowbray is a partner in BakerHostetler, resident in its Washington, DC office. He focuses his practice on energy and environmental markets, energy transactions, and financial product taxation. Mr. Mowbray works closely with energy clients on navigating the changes and tax advantages of energy tax credits, including those brought about by the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. Mr. Mowbray advises clients on renewable energy credits and incentives, including advocacy before the Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service regulatory guidance and statutory interpretations. Mr. Mowbray and Ms. Kramer also coauthor the treatise, Financial Products: Taxation, Regulation, and Design (fourth edition), which they keep current with new versions released on an annual basis. Mr. Mowbray regularly writes articles and updates to Baker’s clients on key matters affecting energy tax credits and the energy industry. Prior to joining BakerHostetler, Mr. Mowbray spent more than six years in public accounting, working in both Chicago and London.
