California Preliminary Examinations and 995 Benchbook: Statutes and Notes

Hon. Mark B. Simons is an Associate Justice for the First District Court of Appeal of the state of California. He was Judge of the Contra Costa County Superior Court from 1995-2000 and was a municipal court judge from 1980-1995. Since his appointment to the bench in 1980, Judge Simons has presided over thousands of preliminary examinations. He has lectured to groups of judges and attorneys on this topic on a frequent basis, and for many years, taught the course on preliminary examinations at the B.E. Witkin Judicial College. Judge Simons received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in 1967 and his law degree from the University of Chicago in 1970, where he was a member of the Editorial Board of the Law Review.
