Michael Sharkey was called to the Victorian Bar in 2015. He practises in commercial litigation and arbitration, specialising in all aspects of building and construction disputes.
Michael Whitten QC was called to the Queensland Bar in 1990 and to the Victorian Bar in 1996. Since then, he has practised in commercial litigation specialising in all aspects of building and construction disputes. He has appeared in most courts and tribunals throughout Australia and developed a domestic and international arbitration practice. In September 2019, he was appointed Chief Justice of Tonga.
Dr. Damien holds a first class honours LLB from Melbourne University, PhD in law from Monash University; degree in Philosophy and is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Queensland. As a member of the Victorian Bar (barrister at law), he practised at the Bar extensively in Administrative Law and taught this subject at Deakin, Melbourne and RMIT Universities.
He has held the post of Deputy President of the Victorian Civil and Administrative Appeals Tribunal (VCAT) from 1998 until 2003 and senior member on VCAT fro m2003 until 2008. Being Deputy President was equivalent to being a judge.
He is currently a General Editor of an Administrative Law journal in Australia and has updated on Administrative Law for Halsbury's which deals with Admiralty Law in Australia. He has written a book on Admiralty Jurisdiction published by an Australian legal publisher which deals with Admiralty Law in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong.
