Bill Patterson LLM (Hons) (Auckland) is a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand and has extensive trusts, commercial and equity litigation experience. He was formerly a partner of Minter Ellison Rudd Watts and has practised since 2003 as a partner with the firm Patterson Hopkins. Bill is a contributing author to popular LexisNexis publications, Fisher on Matrimonial and Relationship Property and Wills and Succession, author of the Laws of New Zealand titles Administration of Estates and Wills, and co-author of the title Family Protection and Other
Family Property Arrangements.
Kirsty Swadling BA, LLB (Auckland), AAMINZ, is a specialist family barrister, mediator and arbitrator, with a background as a general litigator with an emphasis on civil and family disputes. Her family law practice includes disputes relating to children, relationship property and estate disputes. She receives appointments as lawyer for the child, lawyer for subject person, from the Central Authority on Hague Convention matters and also as counsel to assist the Court in family matters
Bill Atkin BA LLM (Wellington) is a professor emeritus of law at Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington, was on the expert reference group for the Independent Panel examining the 2014 family justice reforms and the expert advisory group for the Law Commission’s project on relationship property. He has written extensively, especially on family law.
John Caldwell is an associate professor in law at the University of Canterbury and is a former head of school and director of honours students. After graduating with an LLM (with first class Honours) from Cambridge University, he embarked on a teaching career in law. He also has a BA and a teaching licentiate in speech and drama.
